Jacksonville Marine Corps Half Marathon and 5k

Jacksonville Marine Corps Half Marathon and 5k

Posted by on in fitness, Running | 0 comments

The weather is finally starting to cool a bit. In Jacksonville, that means that the best time of year to run! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be highlighting the three half marathons that make up the TRI 2B TUFF Challenge – the Jacksonville Marine Corps ½ Marathon in October, Distance Classic ½ Marathon in November, and the Jacksonville Bank ½ (or full) Marathon in December. First in the line-up is the Marine Corps ½ Marathon on October 5th. This race is celebrating its 10th anniversary! According to their website, more than 2,500 runners from more than 15 states will participate. Proceeds from this event are shared among numerous Marine Corps related charities. This is my favorite half of the series.  There is a great vibe to this race and the course is beautiful! Starting near EverBank Stadium, this route will take you past Metropolitan Park and across the river into the beautiful neighborhoods of Riverside. You’ll return across the river to finish at Metropolitan Park and be welcomed warmly by many of our country’s finest Marines! And, if at any point you feel yourself lacking motivation, keep an ear out for the chanting Marines that are completing the course in formation. They’ll help get you back on track. The post-event celebration includes numerous military displays, including weaponry and vehicles. Plus, there are many sponsor booths to peruse while enjoying post-race refreshments (i.e. beer)! The TRI 2B TUFF Challenge requires separate entry. After completing all three events mentioned above, you’ll receive a special TRI 2B TUFF...

10 Fun Facts about High-Intensity Interval Workouts

10 Fun Facts about High-Intensity Interval Workouts

Here are 10 things you might not have known about high-intensity interval workouts: One of the founding concepts is Tabata training (20 seconds of high-intensity activity followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated 8 times for a total of 4 minutes). Can double your metabolic rate in only 30 minutes. Has a profound effect on short-term, post-exercise metabolism. Think more calories burned for longer periods of time! Can benefit even well-conditioned athletes. Leads to drastic training improvements in shorter amounts of time. Each set can be made up of the same exercise, or the sets can be varied. Great for busy people – maximum efficiency, in a minimal amount of time. Burns fat more effectively than traditional aerobic workouts. May help prevent Type 2 diabetes. Reduced cardiovascular disease indicators in adolescents. My personal training philosophy is built upon the principles of high intensity interval workouts. If you’d like to learn more, give me a call. I’d be happy to discuss how this method can benefit your workout routine! Yay, It’s Monday!

Yay, It’s Monday!

I am enjoying Monday’s so much more!!  It has been a month now since the layoff.  I don’t hit the alarm for 45 minutes anymore.  I thought I would NEVER break that habit.  Admittedly there are days I may hit snooze once or twice but it is not out of dread.  Today I bounced out of bed, took my dd (dear daughter) to school and ran 4 miles before 9a.  It was fantastic! Most days are spent writing training plans, studying & researching in my field, marketing and of course training.  I am writing this post from my office (Starbuck’s)! lol.  This is my favorite “office” EVER!  Some days it is hard to concentrate as after 6 years, the barista’s are my friends and I know many of the regulars so a fair amount of time gets spent chatting!  Guess it is about the same as the time we hung out at the water cooler at the corporate gig. With less structured hours, it has created more flexibility to spend time on my own training goals.  Currently the goal is training for the next half marathon (Marine Corp).  Im a bit behind in training  coming back from injury, but I just have to survive this one.  No time goals!  It is the 4th half so far this year so not overly worried about it….good chance of survival.  🙂 Anyway, the point is, Monday’s are good.  I don’t get the blues on Sunday afternoon and I don’t wear the snooze button!  I hope all of you have a happy Monday and an awesome and productive week! Ps. The picture in the post is the view from new office. ...
